Sublimation printing requires special printers, inks and substrates. While I do not personally utilize sublimation in mass production. There are ways to get the vivid colors from prints by outsourcing. RBrad Designs works with Cyberhorse Sportswear (chsportswear.com) to get the prints needed for partial sublimation application. RBD also works with CHS for singlets and tees with their line of apparel.
- Dye Sublimation Transfer is a process where you take an image that has been created digitally (either by scanning, downloaded from a digital camera or created on your computer).
- The image is printed with a printer using special sublimation transfer inks onto transfer paper. When heated to high temperatures, sublimation ink turns into a gas, dyeing the material.
- Sublimation needs special ink, paper and specific substrates with polymer coating to work.
- Material needs to be made with a majority polyester and needs to white or light in color
